In the 18th century, the great visual observers Wilhelm and Caroline Herschel certainly didn’t suffer from our 21st century light pollution problems. Today, ever more artificial light sources illuminate the night sky. The good news: you don't necessarily have to travel to the mountains or Namibia to see the Milky Way. Away from the big cities, the country skies invite us to discover unique deep sky treasures.
