When I bought the iStarFi for CEM40 some time ago, I wondered why there was no printing “CEM40 iStarFi” on it. Astroshop contacted iOptron and the result was, that this was correct. No printing. Many thanks for the service!
But how to distinguish between this adapter and the one for the CEM120? They were not interchangeable, according to the iOptron site. This is not clear.
Matters grew worse, when it turned out that the bought adapter did not work on the CEM40 when it replaced the GPS adapter on a switched-on mount, as is the right procedure, according to the iStarFi manual from the iOptron website.
It worked however only after a fresh switch-on of the mount with the adapter already connected.
A short time ago, after the latest firmware upgrade of the CEM40, the adapter stopt working altogether.
I used an iPhone and an iPad with SkySafari.
Finally, in a discussion group an answer from iOptron came:
In the SkySafari settings, do NOT choose “iOptron CEM/iEQ Pro/AZ Mount Pro”,
but instead choose “iOptron CEM-120”.
I did it, and it worked (CEM40) instantly!!
At the moment of this writing the matter has not yet been dealt with in the iStarFi manual.
The adapter is a real blessing! Alternately slewing and synchronising is a delight, no step on a ladder, using finders. The arrows on the phone or iPad are very accurate.
For laptop use I prefer plate solving, but this with a phone works almost as fast. Much recommended!!
