The eye relief specifies the maximum distance from the eyepiece at which the entire field of view can still be seen. A suitable distance for spectacles wearers is >16mm.

The interpupillary distance indicates how far the eyepieces or tubes can be pushed together or pulled apart. This is an important indication, since each person has a different interpupillary distance.

The second specification in the binoculars’ model number is the front lens diameter. The larger it is, the more light the binoculars collect.

Watertight optics are equipped with special seals and are gas-purged. This is usually with nitrogen or argon gas. Since these gases are heavier than air, they cannot escape.
