Carbon is especially light and stable, but is also more expensive than metal

Carbon fibre telescope tubes are particularly light and therefore perfect for smaller mounts. Carbon has a high inherent stability and durability with very low thermal expansion. This latter advantage is particularly useful for astrophotographers: the focus remains stable - all night long.
