A perfect travel apochromat for observation and astrophotography

This high-quality Photoline Triplet APO, featuring the Ohara (Japan) FPL53 element, is one of the best 80mm APOs on the market. Even at high magnifications, the image displays no annoying colour errors whilst retaining exceptional correction. The high-speed aperture ratio of f/6 not only keeps the refracting telescope very short and compact, but it also provides short exposure times for astrophotography.

The advantages at a glance:

  • Rigidly mounted focuser with Rack&Pinion adjustment. The drawtube can be removed for storage.
  • Oversized drawtube with 60mm clear aperture for full illumination, even when using a full-frame camera.
  • 1:10 micro-reduction for ultra-precise focus
  • High-quality CNC lens tube with inner panels and exceptional inner blackening: no annoying scattered light!
  • M68x1 internal thread creates sturdy adaptation opportunities for astrophotography (back focus: 170mm)
  • The dew cap can be pushed in, making the transportation length only 43 centimetres!
  • Modern and multi-coated 3-element lens with FPL53 as an APO element
  • High-quality CNC clamps and level GP prism rails with photo tripod connection

Slight optical aberration

I just got this telescope, and it is my first ever telescope for astrophotography.
So take this review with a grain of salt. I found this telescope to be very good and very sharp when taking photo's.
The focusser feels amazing and can be held in place with a small screw.
The colours are also amazing when taking photo's. However the stars are not perfectly round around the edged of the photo.
So there is a slight aberration in the lens.
