Product description

More about the series Star Discovery...

N 150/750 telescope: This versatile Newtonian reflecting telescope provides both beginners and more experienced amateur astronomers plenty of light and high stability for a very modest price. It collects so much light with its generous 150mm diameter that distant DSOs such as the Ring Nebula in Lyra or the Dumbbell Nebula become beautifully visible and globular clusters, such as M13, resolve into a multitude of individual stars at their edges. Planetary observing provides rich detail in images of Saturn, Jupiter, Venus and Mars. The f5 focal ratio means this reflector falls into the class of 'fast' Newtonian telescopes. This telescope is therefore particularly suitable for astrophotography. The light gathering capacity of the 150 is 460 times greater than that of the naked eye alone (with a 7mm fully dilated pupil).

The advantages in a nutshell:

  • relatively high light gathering power thanks to 150mm aperture
  • resistant to vibration and wind due to compact design
  • diffraction limited parabolic primary mirror
  • high-contrast image due to thin secondary mirror spider vanes
  • portable and quickly assembled
  • exposure times for astrophotography can due to the short focal length

The Star Discovery mount with SynScan™ WIFI module generates its own WLAN. This makes it wirelessly controllable with your Android, iOS smartphone or tablet. All you have to do is install the free SynScan app on your mobile device.

Control via the SynScan app has many advantages - It is wireless, particularly intuitive with its touch screen and graphical user interface and offers other options, such as the astronomical highlights for the current night, identification of astronomical objects, etc.

The initialization required before observing is also very straightforward and uses GPS data from your mobile device. After performing the simple alignment procedure, you are then immediately ready to start exploring the universe. The SynScan app allows fully computerized GoTo control of the mount and automatically slews your telescope to any object you select from the extensive database of over 10,000 objects.

Additional features

  • Freedom-Find™ Double Encoder Technology - you can move the mount by hand, after freeing the clutches, without losing the computer control's orientation. Fast slewing by hand is quieter and saves on battery life.
  • and speaking of quiet - the mount operates with very little noise, so your neighbours will be happy.
  • you can connect any telescope, up to five kilos in weight, that has a Vixen standard prism rail.
  • the mount has a battery compartment. You can also connect a power adapter (12V, centre contact positive). We recommend using a 'Powertank' (see 'Recommended Accessories').
  • low weight - altazimuth single-arm mounts are very lightweight due to their design and are therefore particularly suitable for mobile use.

It not only matters which telescope you buy but also where you buy it. Our additional services:

  • We are a leading telescope dealer and know the devices we sell. Our customer service team will gladly help you after your purchase if you have problems with assembly or operation.
  • We provide a copy of the 80-page Telescope ABC beginners handbook with every telescope.

Customer reviews

I am satisfied so far.

If you will use it only for observation, you can watch.

Bright nebulae and closed and open clusters.
The rings of Saturn, the moons of Jupiter.
Jupiter's cloud bands will be visible, though not in detail. You will also like the moon
Of course an 8 or 10 inch aperture will show more. Alignment is not complicated.

For astrophotography it is possible. But you should use short exposures. I personally photographed galaxies and the image is much better than visual observation with my old 8 inch telescope. Align: The star must be right in the middle. Of course, an equatorial mount will give a much better result. But I'm happy for now with the money I gave. The camera I use is zwo asi 290 mm with focal reducer.

Success !

Absolute rubbish - Avoid this telescope like the plague

This is by far the worst "big" purchase I've ever made. 600 Euros is a lot of money, and you should expect to get a very decent product for 600 euros. What you get is a cheap and nasty - plastic toy.

The optical tube is made out of that very cheap material where you cannot tell if its metal or plastic, just to give you an idea, an empty can of beans feels more solid than this tube.

The mount became loose after just one week, the "Freedom Find" feature basically ruins your gears, once you've spent a night of manually slewing this telescope you will find that there's at least an inch of play on the azimuth axis. Again cheap rubbish.

The tripod is a tripod, it didn't fall over, at least they can make something right.

Just so you know, you DO NOT get a handset with this mount, you have to provide your own handset for this 'wonderful' package, even though SkyWatcher give handsets for their 127mm Maksutov package, which is more costly to manufacture, just goes to show how cheap this package is compared.

By the way, using your phone to slew the telescope is in no way a viable means of star gazing, the whole reason you need a handset is so you don't have to take your eye away from the eyepiece in order to see which button you are pressing. You can FEEL the buttons on a handset, on a touch screen phone? its just frustrating. Oh and of course once you are connected to the telescope via wifi you have no means of making calls or even browsing the internet, so you have to choose one or the other - 600 euros???

I had to replace the mount after one week, which Astroshop did for me with no issues, as soon as my replacement mount arrives I'm selling this junk.

This is by no means an attack on Astroshop, they are wonderful to deal with and I recommend buying your telescope from this site, however just avoid this model at all cost, if this is your limiting budget, then go for the SkyWatcher 127MCT, if you can wait a bit more and save a bit more money buy something from a proper brand who care about their build quality such as Celestron or Meade.
