More about the series SkyQuest...

The Orion SkyQuest telescope:

The optics of this Newtonian reflector telescope are of Orion's customary high quality. The soda lime glass mirror is supplied with high-quality aluminium and silicon dioxide coatings. Focusing on models up to 150mm aperture is via a 1.25" rack-and-pinion drive, and from 203mm aperture a 2" Crayford focuser is used.

The Dobsonian base turns on smoothly running Teflon bearings, so allowing jerk-free, effortless movement of the telescope. The tube holds position as it is suspended in perfect balance. The components of the telescope are both easy to handle and light; the telescope is eminently portable and can be assembled in just a few steps and without specialist knowledge or tools. The entire construction distinguishes itself by its insensitivity to wind and its stability.

Included in delivery of Dobsonian Orion N 114/910:

  • OTA with 114mm aperture and 9100mm focal length
  • rack-and-pinion focuser (1.25")
  • SPL 25mm and SPL 10mm eyepieces (1.25")
  • red dot finder
  • Dobsonian mount with Teflon bearings and built-in eyepiece rack

It not only matters which telescope you buy but also where you buy it. Our additional services:

( 5 / 5 )

After a long hum and ha about what should be our first telescope , we ended up on this nice little dobsonian.
Have seen the moons and stripes of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn. Mars is tiny, but fun little red dot. I added an Orion Barlow lens shorty plus and we are happy. The best part is the handle on top which allows me to carry it outside for the neighbors to see. I don't know why the bigger Orions don't have this ??(Also the views of the craters of the moon are breathtaking.)
You can swing it easily and all you need is a table to raise it off of the ground. Part of the reason we are happy is because our 'seeing is excellent here in the south of Spain. Don't forget if the atmospheric conditions are not good, you won't see much no matter what telescope you have. Have a look at a video I made of Saturn in May with my iphone held up to the eyepiece...search You tube xt 4.5 Orion Saturn from Laughmedicine
Now that a year has passed I am happy, but seeing galaxies and astrofotography are on the list. If you are beginner, buy this scope and a good set of binoculars( celestron 15x 70 or Minoolta 10x50 ) and between the two you will see a lot of cool Astronomy stuff. It has been fun and I would recommend it for families.
I am a bit ticked that is quite less expensive than last year..Service from these guys was good... Had trouble with binoculars and they changed them for me .
