More about the series Powerseeker...
The PowerSeeker telescopes:
Celestron has created a new range of beginners telescopes with this series, which are extremely good value for money. PowerSseekers are ideal for getting acquainted with one of the oldest and most enjoyable of all hobbies. An inspirational gift for any student who is has always been interested in the wonders of the night sky.
Many discoveries can be made even with the smallest PowerSeeker instrument: even the 50mm aperture PowerSeeker will show detail of the craters on the Moon, the four largest moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn. Deep sky objects such as the Orion Nebula and Andromeda Galaxy can also be seen. The performance of telescopes increases dramatically with increasing aperture, or light gathering capacity: The 114mm diameter or even 127mm diameter PowerSeeker is therefore your stepping stone into more advanced amateur astronomy. Details in the cloud bands of Jupiter, surface features on Mars, smaller galaxies and planetary nebulae all become visible.
The Celestron CG-1 mount:
This parallactic mount can take telescopes up to approx. 3 kg total weight. Setting circles on both axes allow the manual fine movement which can be very sensitively adjusted with the flexible slow motion controls. In contrast to the slightly larger CG-3 mount, the declination axis is somewhat less robust than the right ascension axis and therefore does not offer quite the same quality of fine adjustment. The completely pre-assembled tripod has aluminium legs provides a stable and vibration-free platform for mount and telescope. You can keep all your important accessories on the tray provided and so always have them close at hand. A motor for automatic tracking can be retrofitted to the right ascension axis, and is already included with the MD models.
Included in delivery:

Our expert comment:
This telescope is quite suitable for the first fun exploration of the night sky. Observing the moon is an impressive experience even in a small instrument such as this. The mount also allows terrestrial observing. But you should not expect high performance from a telescope in this price bracket.
A note regarding magnification: Similar telescopes are advertised in many places with magnifications of over 300X or even 600X. Any telescope can theoretically reach these magnifications, but you will not be able to see anything - everything will be blurred! The maximum useful magnification is that at which objects can still just be sharply imaged.
This telescope in an excellent choice for children, but young people of over 10 years of age and adults will definitely get more pleasure out of a Newtonian telescope such as the Omegon 114/900 EQ-1.

It is a good idea to get some idea of how to orient yourself in the night sky by first reading some books on the subject. There are various books available which tell you how to get better acquainted with the night sky.
