So I'm back again because I have nothing better to do today. We recently had a partial lunar eclipse here in Germany so I decided to get out of the city and see it properly and I decided to take this smartphone adapter with me.
Long story short it worked great for photographing the moon! The image was pretty crisp and the problems I had previously with aligning weren't that difficult to overcome with such a bright target.
Pro tip: to align quickly, shine a dim torch down the aperture, this will project a bright spot of your phone which you can then use as a target to direct your smartphone camera.
In the end, though, the moon (and maybe the sun with proper filters) is the only target I can really use this product on, I tried it on Jupiter and Saturn along with M13 and 31. The planets were just blurry and the DSOs were too faint for a phone camera to pick up. Also using mobile astrophotography apps (I used NightCap), in exposures over 2 seconds the objects became fuzzy just become of their motion (especially because I was using my mid-range GoTo which doesn't have super accurate tracking). Most of these problems aren't even the adapters fault but the phone's but without a phone the adapter is useless.
Summary: It's ok but only for the moon.

It's not that good. It's sturdy but hard to adjust (took me 15 mins to see any stars at all), it leads to a really sub-optimal image and the grips trigger the volume on many phones, on my iPhone 6 that means I can't see anything because of the volume indicator blocking my view.
