Product description

With this camera, your automatic mount can carry out automatic tracking without an additional laptop or PC - so you can take long exposures of faint celestial objects!

Simply plug it in and off you go -Plug & Guide!

  • Autoguiding starts automatically as soon as the StarAid is connected to a power supply. Point the telescope towards any point in the night sky and the StarAid will find multiple guiding stars. This works during the full moon as well as beneath a dark sky in the magnificent star clouds of the Milky Way
  • Requires no laptop or other device
  • Guiding is automatically resumed if it is interrupted by cloud cover or the telescope is pointed towards a new target
  • Recognises between 1 and 20 stars instantly and uses them for tracking purposes: Advanced, proprietary algorithms for high-speed star recognition and centring
  • Guiding accuracy unaffected by gear backlash
  • Automatic processing of meridian flips
  • Sends up to 5 correcting signals per second (5Hz) to the mount to minimise the drifting effect and to partially compensate for air turbulence

Comet tracking

Take long exposures of comets. StarAid has a well-maintained cataloge including interesting comets. Simply select a comet from the Object Guiding menu and point your telescope towards the comet. StarAid then follows this comet so that you can take long, deep exposures of the comet without it drifting out of the picture

As long as Object Guiding is activated, a laptop or smartphone is not required.

Free, built-in StarAid app for further features:although the StarAid carries out autoguiding completely automatically and does not require any additional devices, the practical StarAid app exists for accessing further features:

  • Autoguider status monitoring
  • Very simple AI-controlled mount orientation
  • Automatic plate solving (“Sky recognition”)
  • LiveView for easy StarAid focusing.
  • Works with every device: Access and use the app on your smartphone, computer or tablet
  • Works without internet connection
  • Connect your device using the in-built StarAid WiFi or using the supplied USB cable

StarAid Revolution works best with a guiding scope with a small focal length between 100 and 150 mm. This enables very lightweight and sturdy construction. This can be secured using a 1.25” eyepiece clamp or using the optional C-Mount adapter.

Scope of delivery:

  • StarAid Revolution
  • USB-A to USB-C cable (1m)
  • Guiding cable (RJ-12, 6P6C ribbon cable, 0.5m)
  • Uplink cable (RJ45, CAT6 cable, 2m)

Customer reviews

Great product and concept but it's future is not supported

Review by R. M. on 04.11.2023 13:43:17

( 5 / 5 )

I have a StarAid Revolution version C and it works well and allows polar alignment and multi-star tracking and camera dither with minimal cables, minimal power consumption, low system weight and no need for a computer. For the first time, my small astro rig has done 3minute exposures. I do have a mini-PC and PhD etc but I find the setting-up is too time-consuming. For functionality and uniqueness the StarAid product merits 5 stars. For it's future and support it merits 0 stars. I give it 5 stars here because people, like me, would buy it for it's qualities, as long as you can cope with the price. I would also like to see the stocks of version C sold to encourage it's future, either by the original inventor or someone who can continue the theme.

However, people like me should also know the product support limitations here.

The promise was that updates and upgrades would extend it's functionality for using it's plate solving capability to allow a direct GOTO control. This has not happened. The StarAid website does not even list version C so any software downloads listed there do not necessarily apply to version C. The support link accepts requests but there is never a reply. The inventor and founder of StarAid has sold his technology to Celestron for use in a Celestron-specific product so it's not clear if the rights for a stand-alone generic device are separate.

The StarAid product nicely proves the principle but is leaving the market wide open for someone else to come up with a similar stand-alone product at a sensible price. I would do it myself if I had the time.
