More about the series SG...

Vixen SG 2,1x42 binoculars - star field observing at low magnification

On a starry night, the SG 2,1x42 binoculars provide a much wider field of view at lower magnification than conventional binoculars with 6X or 10X. This means you can observe the amazing views of the Milky Way.

It is as if you were looking the stars a brighter...

Vixen SG binoculars have an objective lens aperture of 42mm with a magnification of 2.1X, so you see objects at least twice as large as with your naked eyes. Like conventional binoculars, the focus can be set individually for each eye. The eye relief can be also individually adjusted. The generous 20mm of eye relief lets you enjoy the entire field of view wearing spectacles. In order to help you holding these star field binoculars securely, they come with a long strap that you can loosely wrap several times around the hand. In addition, a soft padded case with belt loop is provided to keep them in. The binoculars have a large objective lens aperture and the low magnification means they have incredible light gathering power.

Made in Saitama, Japan
The SG 2,1x42 binoculars are produced in Saitama in Japan. Vixen Co., Ltd takes care of quality control and Opt Miyauchi, renowned for its binoculars, is responsible for the production of the metal parts and the assembly.

The benefits at a glance:

  • Like a pair of spectacles you can use to observe the night sky
  • Incredible light gathering power: 42mm aperture and 2.1X magnification
  • Wide field of view: Observe entire constellations in a single field of view
  • See many more stars than with the naked eye - even with light pollution
  • Padded case

Ideal for viewing whole constellations

Review by M. B. on 08.12.2015 22:23:08

( 5 / 5 )

I purchased a pair of these binoculars about 6 months ago and can recommend them for wide field viewing with the extra light gathered being very helpful for seeing star colours.

At the moment Orion is nicely placed and fits nicely within the field of view wirh at least 30 stars being visible within the boundaries of the main stars of the constellation.

The binoculars are very compact and can also be useful for general daytime use. If your long range eyesight is not as good as it once was then these binoculars are to be recommended.

Excellent wide-angle views of the sky and the constellations

( 5 / 5 )

These handy binoculars provide excellent views of whole constellations including star colours and can also be used for terrestrial observing.

Optical and build quality seems very good and the 42mm lenses gather a lot of light allowing good appreciation of star colours and magnitude.

The binoculars are very compact and come in a handy pouch case which is small enough to fit in a pocket together with a neck/wrist strap. The case also has loops for carrying or fastening on a belt.

These binoculars are not for everybody or for general purpose use due to their cost; but if your long range eyesight is not as good as it could be and you wish to get nice clear views of large patches of the sky then these could be for you.

The ordering and delivery service from Astroshop.eu was first class and the total time required from ordering to delivery to the far reaches of southern hemisphere was less than four days. This included processing an emailed amendment to the original order which was intelligently dealt with unlike some of the box-shifting-only sites.
