More about the series Nightstar...

The new Omegon Nightstar - outstanding large binoculars at a low price

With an objective diameter of 100mm, the Omegon Nightstar provides a very bright image and is perfect for observing the night sky. The new three-element design substantially improves image colour - it can therefore be ranked among the half-apochromats.

Now still more universally usable

Now with connectors for accepting 1.25” eyepieces, there is nothing standing in the way of using your own eyepieces. Due to the relatively short focal length of 560mm however, the magnification used should not exceed 100X. The binoculars come with two pairs of eyepieces already included, allowing you to select between magnifications of 20X or 40X. The use of separate 1.25" eyepieces now also allows the observer to use nebula filters for observing DSOs.

These large binoculars let you to observe the night sky in particular comfort because using both eyes is less strenuous and much more fun. The large objective diameter makes a rich variety of objects visible. Objects appear differently compared to the view through a telescope, they seem three-dimensional. In addition, there are two 100mm apertures providing more light gathering capacity than the single aperture of a 100mm telescope, with which one observes monocularly anyway. Open clusters, extended emission nebulas and other DSOs can all be well seen.

Omegon Nightstar 20+40x100 Triplets are optically and mechanically outstandingly well-constructed binoculars.

The advantages in a nutshell:

  • wide range of standard 1.25“eyepieces usable
  • multi-coated optical surfaces
  • very sharp field of view
  • eyepieces separately focusable
  • viewing distance can be precisely adjusted

    Included in delivery:
  • adjustable aluminium dew shields with front end caps
  • removable carrying handle, attached with two hand screws
  • tripod adapter with ¼“ threaded socket
  • 20X eyepiece set (multi-coated) and 40X eyepiece set (multi-coated)

lockable aluminium carrying case with moulded padding

Our expert comment:

The currently available Omegon Nightstar 20-40x100 binoculars are a development of their popular predecessor and have the same lens diameter. The new version now has triplet objective lenses employing special glass. This has allowed significantly improved sharpness and field flatness. 2 pairs of eyepieces, for the 20X and 40X magnifications, are included in delivery. The eyepieces have a front thread for taking a normal 1.25 inch nebula filter. These Night Star binoculars are ideal for observing extended objects such as the North America Nebula, the Veil Nebula or the California Nebula. We recommend the use of a UHC-Filter.

Additional magnifications, to complement the 20X and 40X, are possible. Normal astronomical eyepieces can be used. In testing, we were very impressed by the sharpness and contrast delivered by the large 100mm lenses. The instrument is unique in its price range! Using the 40X eyepieces, from our headquarters in Landsberg we could even observe the building on the top of the Zugspitze Mountain - a distance of 72km away! We took a photo of this with a digital SLR camera positioned behind one eyepiece. The photo even shows, albeit somewhat fuzzily, the cable for the Zugspitze cable car!
