More about the series Zoom...

Omegon premium zoom eyepiece - with the observing quality of a fixed-focus eyepiece

You look through the eyepiece. Jupiter hovers in front of you, a small disk with deep black space all around it. You step up the magnification - easily and comfortably. And then suddenly you see the bands like wafts of mist over the planet. Now you discover the Great Red Spot, as it slowly comes into view from the back of the planet. You see it as a 'truly' red object moving constantly along with the planet. When observing with this premium zoom eyepiece you can sometimes get the impression that you are observed through a good quality fixed focal length eyepiece. But then you realize - it's the still the Omegon Zoom you are using!

Omegon Zoom eyepiece - Like observing through a fixed focal length eyepiece

You gaze through the eyepiece. Jupiter hovers in front of you, a small disk with pitch black space around it. Zoom in a bit more - nice and easy. And then, suddenly, you can see the bands like wraiths of mist around the planet. Now you discover the Great Red Spot, as it rotates very slowly into view from behind the planet. You can see it as a 'real' red object continually moving with the planet. When observing with this premium zoom eyepiece you really get the impression that you are observing through a good quality fixed focal length eyepiece. But then you remember - you're looking through the Omegon premium zoom eyepiece

This zoom eyepiece can compete with fixed focal length eyepieces - in comparison it provides a similarly sharp and high contrast image to a good fixed magnification eyepiece. A combination of eight lens elements with a new coating meets all the demands of a high-end zoom eyepiece.

The image makes the experience

An eyepiece can seem good quality on the outside, but much more important is what is inside. The Omegon zoom optics have been designed to provide a high quality image. They provide you with a bright image at all magnifications. And objects not only appear sharp in the centre of the eyepiece, but right out to the edge of the field of view. Imagine observing an open star cluster where the stars turn to mush at the edge of the field of view - you avoid this scenario with this zoom eyepiece.

Suitable for fast telescopes

Perhaps you own a fast f5 telescope?

Telescopes (e.g. Newtonians) with such an aperture ratio are called 'fast' because they give a bright image - something like a camera lens with a small f-stop number. Many eyepieces are overwhelmed with fast focal ratio telescopes. But not, however, the Omegon Zoom. It gives optimal edge sharpness.

Flat-field optics - a flat image field right to the edge

Who wants to look through a porthole? The zoom eyepiece therefore provides you with a flat image field - right up to the edge of the field of view, so that see no distortion. You see the night sky through your eyepiece just the way it is.

Steplessly zoom between focal lengths of 7.5 - 22.5 mm

With the Omegon zoom eyepiece you can select the appropriate magnification using focal lengths of between 7.5 mm and 22.5 mm. This gives 1000mm focal length telescopes a range of magnifications from small to medium; and with 2000mm focal length telescopes a range of magnifications from medium to high. Never again lack a magnification - and save yourself having to buy several different fixed focal length eyepieces.

Finding the optimal contrast

A zoom eyepiece lets you quickly find the optimum magnification for the object and the night. So, if you are observing a planet, simply turn the adjusting ring to increase the magnification up to the maximum allowed by the seeing conditions.

Long eye relief - even for spectacle wearers

Many oculares are not really suitable for spectacle wearers. But the Omegon Zoom is different; with up to 19.5 mm of eye relief even spectacle wearers can take in the entire field of view. Constantly having to take off your glasses and put them on again is irritating - so simply leave your glasses on when observing and focus on the essentials: the object you are observing.

Even if you do not wear glasses, you will still benefit from the comfortable viewing due to its generous eye relief.

Infinitely adjustable eyecup

One should always avoid scattered light when observing, and the soft eyecup on the Omegon zoom eyepiece ensures this. You can infinitely adjust the eyecup to optimize viewing.

The best horse in the zoom eyepiece stable

You can bet on one of the highest quality zoom eyepieces we know. Fixed focal length eyepieces may be able to achieve an almost perfect image, but they are never as convenient as a zoom eyepiece. Find out how to combine good optics with practicality.

What our customers say:

" I compared this eyepiece with my 22mm and 8mm LVW eyepieces. The zoom eyepiece was so high contrast. I couldn't tell if I was looking through my LVW or my Omegon zoom. "

R. Lehmann, amateur astronomer, and second chairman of the Buchloe Public Observatory.

The advantages in a nutshell:

  • one eyepiece but many magnifications
  • flat-field optics - a flat image field over the entire field of view
  • for spectacle wearers - 18 to 19.5mm of eye relief
  • very sharp and high-contrast image
  • 42° -66° field of view
  • a sophisticated aperture system and blackened interior to suppress reflections
  • filter thread for 1.25" filters
