Omegon super Ploessl

A classic - and probably the most inexpensive way of getting a sharp image

Super Ploessl eyepieces are among the most inexpensive available and are true classics. Generations of amateur astronomers have used them for successful astronomy. The ingenious design employs only 5 lenses, but provides a clear and bright image. These are the eyepieces for those who want quality but do not need expensive high-end eyepieces.

The advantages in a nutshell:

  • a quality eyepiece - providing a better image than those that come included with new telescopes
  • 52 degree field of view (45° for the 40mm) - significantly wider than Kellner and standard Ploessl eyepieces
  • multi-coating and blackened lens edges for high contrast
  • 1.25" connector - the eyepieces will fit in any telescope
  • rubber fold-down eyecups to protect against stray light

52° field of view - so it is not like 'looking through a tunnel'

Super Ploessl eyepieces are a plus for your observing because, in comparison to cheap standard eyepieces, they have a wider, 52 degree, field of view. You observe as through a large window and it also means that you can see more detail.

Blackened lens edges - more contrast with bright and faint objects

When observing with a telescope, it really all comes down to good quality eyepieces - these are just as important as the telescope itself. They decide whether you can make out the fine spiral arms of M51, or make out a minor planet that is right at the performance limit of the telescope. They reduce reflections even when observing bright objects.

The lens edges of these Super Ploessl eyepieces have been blackened to ensure they provide good contrast. Light does not get 'lost on the way', but goes to exactly where it should - into your eye.

A large range of focal lengths - from 4mm to 40mm

These eyepieces provide you with a range of 9 focal lengths. So you are guaranteed to find the right magnification and increments for your telescope. And the best part - all the eyepieces are parfocal.

Superb eyepiece

This eyepiece is a must for a beginner like myself and probably you if you are reading this review ;) I have Sky-watcher 127/1500 Mak which is great for lunar in planetary observation. I use this eyepiece for lunar in DSO observation and I'm really impressed how good this eyepiece actually is!

It's a superb eyepiece! Go for it ;)

A Beginners Must Have Lens

Review by HertogMokum60 on 03.06.2020 02:18:08

( 5 / 5 )

Most quality beginners telescopes come with two eyepieces, 10mm and 25mm. A x2 Barlow may also be provided. In general, these eyepieces are not of the best quality. They're just adequate to get the budding astronomer started.

I have a Sky-Watcher 102/1300 f13 Maksutov. This is a marvelous telescope for Lunar and planetary observation. The lowest magnification lens I had, was the 25mm Kelner that came with the scope. While being usable, it wasn't the greatest.

I quickly upgraded to the 32mm Omegon Super Plössl. It sports 5 multi-coated lens elements, with blackend edges for higher contrast and definition. Its 52°apparent field of view is very nice. This lens is bright. When using it for Lunar observation, you'll definitely need a Moon neutral density filter in your box of tricks. With my MAK, I get a x41 magnification with this lens. I can see a huge amount of lunar detail. However, when I use a x2 Barlow,(I use a Celestron Omni x2 Barlow) my MAK has a colossal focal length of 2600mm. The 32mm Omegon Super Plössl now really shines. It works like a 16mm eyepiece, providing a x81.25 magnification. I'm suddenly in the capsule of Apollo 8, with Frank Borman, JIm Lovell and William Anders. The Moon's surface, looks as fresh and as close as it did for the Apollo 8 crew. It's truly spectacular.

The 32mm Omegon Super Plössl will very quickly become a beginners favourite eyepiece. For the low price you'll pay for this quality lens, you really get your bang for your buck. It's a must have item for anyone new to astronomy.
