Precision and high load bearing capacity in an elegant design: The new Morningcalm mounts
AstroDreamTech mounts have been specially designed for amateur astronomers who make high demands on their mounts. That means above all: stability, strength and a high precision during use. AstroDreamTech has managed to pack all these requirements into a stylish mount.
A brief introduction: the four 'powerhorses' from AstroDreamTech
Not just one, but four different mounts come from the AstroDreamTech stable. These models - 200GE, 300GE, 500GE and 700GE - offer maximum load bearing capacities of 30, 50, 70 or 100 kg respectively (dependent on length of the 'lever' of the instrument concerned) each. The two smaller mounts are compactly designed and extremely portable. The two larger models are great for use in observatories but may also be used as portable mounts. The advantage: You can use the 'big' ones for either.
The Morningcalm mount mechanism
The combination of CNC machining and continual quality control by our on-site experts means these mounts are precision finished products. This means that the individual adjustment of the axes and worm drives is possible for every mount. The body of the mount consists of Duralumin.
The mount bearings
Each axis of the 200GE, 500GE, 700GE has three tapered roller bearings. There are hence a total of six different tapered roller bearings for the precise operation of the mount.
Worm gear
The worm wheel is made from Duralumin 7075 and the worm itself from chrome-molybdenum alloy (SCM21). This material is a high-strength stainless steel, which is corrosion resistant and is also used in the aerospace sector for example and for use in other extreme conditions. These core components of the mount have undergone a lapping process to ensure an absolute minimal worm error.
Small periodic error
The periodic error of the mount is +/-5 seconds of arc.
The servo-motors
High quality 12V servo motors with 2048 increment optical encoders ensure accurate positioning. These motors can be faster but still provide very precise positioning via the use of direct current.
Hubo-i - the hand controller
The HUBO-i hand controller provides a GoTo system that has already been adapted for Morningcalm. Your very first impression of the hand box will be that it looks very different to typical GoTo controls. The reason for this is that Hubo-i controller has been developed by the South Korea Institute of Science and Technology, which usually deals with the construction of robots.
But of course, strictly speaking, a mount may also be described as a telescope robot. The control box has 18 large silicone keys and a large four line display with a red backlight, letting you easily navigate even when wearing gloves.
Software update
The firmware in Hubo-i controllers may be updated at any time via the USB connection provided. The manufacturer provides the appropriate firmware and firmware loader for download on their website.
Star calibration
You can improve the positioning accuracy of the mount by doing a multi-star alignment. Feel free to align using more than 3 stars if you are not completely satisfied with the result. Any charting errors will also be minimized.
Balance control
The system allows the control of the weight balance by measuring current energy consumption of the DC motors.
Adjustable speed
You can select from three different speeds to position an object. The speeds may be selected via the keypad. The trick is simply to set the speed selection you want in advance
USB port
Serial port problems are a thing of the past: the hand box is equipped with a USB port. You can quickly and easily connect the mount to a PC via this.
Objects nearby?
Do you have a deep sky object in the field of view of the telescope, but also sometimes want to have a look at other objects which are in the immediate vicinity? A simple touch of a Hubi-i button will show you other objects in the vicinity.
